Swing shallow to launch it high Fairway woods are long and low lofted, which makes them tricky to get airborne. Many amateurs we teach lean back through impact in an effort to lift the ball up, but this typically results in a low strike on the club face and a weak, low ball flight. Instead, try to brush the turf in front of your ball through impact. This will encourage you to keep your chest down longer, which can help you find the centre of the face and launch shots higher in the air. If you’re struggling to achieve this shallow swing action, try placing a glove around six inches in front of your ball and swing towards it after impact, as above. |
