Rory McIlroy wrote his name into the record books once again by becoming the first European to win three WGC events with a first hole playoff victory over Xander Schauffele at the HSBC Champions in China.

The victory also marked the fourth time the Northern Irishman has won four times in a calendar year, but he was not the only one to have had an impact on the record books.

For the first time since November 1993, Phil Mickelson’s name will not feature in the Official World Golf Ranking’s top fifty after a tie for 28th in China dropped him to 51st in the world.
